The GDP of the US is impressive indeed. I’ve heard that if Sweden joined the US as a state it would be the poorest of the bunch calculated in GDP/C. I don’t know if it is still true but I don’t see any reason to doubt it. Looking at the state of things it might not be obvious that we are worse of though.
Ask yourself this; if you could have the life you wanted by earning less, would that make you a poorer person?

Perhaps that is the answer to why other countries doesn’t want to copy the US.

I think if you were going to look for one thing to change to be more like the US, it would be to stop criminalizing speech.
It's something we're battling with right now as well. For some fucking reason, millions of fucking marxists decided to come out of the shadows and try to burn down the bill of rights.

I agree and actually we did. In 1991 we added a new section covering freedom of speech to our constitution. Most Swedes are unaware of this and think it was always so because we have one of the oldest and most powerful press freedom laws in the world. It is still illegal to investigate press sources in Sweden. Not even the police or intelligence services are allowed to. It’s against our constitution since 1765.Okeefenokee wrote: ↑Fri Aug 10, 2018 2:44 pmI think if you were going to look for one thing to change to be more like the US, it would be to stop criminalizing speech.

If you were a state, you'd rival California in tech output and innovation, though. I'd take that deal, but jihadis are coming with you.
Real Swedes are great innovators.
I'd prefer confederation, though.

Regarding GDP, we enjoy the “reserve currency” status due to the overwhelming power of our military. We are literally the ‘least likely currency to be fucked with’, and have imposed our currency on the trade of oil through raw power. (See Iran, SA, Iraq, Kuwait, etc)
This power dynamic is shifting though, and the Chinese have made inroads with their new Petroyuan oil contract. Iran has already started buying oil with it, and is now being hyped as our Great Enemy again, along with China.
In essence, we no longer enjoy lone-superpower status, and it will be a hard fall from this great height.
Anyway, while we’ve held this status, it’s become essentially a blank check. The US Treasury Bill (our IOU) is considered the safest in the world, because who’s gonna collect on us?
This is why we continue to overspend on the military, and set up hundreds of military bases across the globe. We have no other choice.

People just dont understand how big and expansive this country is. You think New York to San Francisco is a simple train ride. We have a public transport system it's called an airport it's cheaper and more efficient than a fucking train or bus. Circus child fiddler just loves trains.California wrote: ↑Fri Aug 10, 2018 7:49 amWe don't need a public transport system, we have an effective highway system that allows us to not be filthy collectivists rubbing up against each other.Montegriffo wrote: ↑Fri Aug 10, 2018 1:38 amI say how fairly is that wealth distributed?
How come with all that wealth you have such a poorly financed infrastructure. You have crumbling dams, bridges unsafe to use, a third world public transport system.
Where does all that wealth go?
Why do you have 11 massive aircraft carriers, the three biggest military airforces in the world and yet cities like Detroit which have been abandoned by the government, an appalling state school system which cannot even guarantee the safety of its pupils never mind educate them to a reasonable standard?
"Crumbling dams" and "bridges unsafe to use" are outright lies. We could use some more maintenance on the roads and infrastructure, but this is due to government mismanagement of money, not even necessarily the military spending that keeps your defense spending down.
Detroit and school systems are also due to government ineptitude.

Oh look I'm getting called a pedophile again. Must have hit home with that one...
For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.
