Nope. Bad analogy.

It's more like the difference between a red potato and a russet potato. Yeah, they are pretty different in a specific context, and used for different recipes, but they are still both potatoes.

I do not dispute that there exist differences between conservatism and progressivism. My argument is that the differences make little distinction compared to the similarities. The differences that conservatives and progressives obsess over to distinguish themselves from one another really matter little in effect. Both are essentially liberals, stemming from the Enlightenment, and defending the Enlightenment principles. Several of you lauded the Enlightenment as some self-evident good that must be protected. Liberals.

Marxists on the other hand actually do present some very big differences that make very big distinctions. They are nothing like progressives or conservatives. They wish to destroy the progressive/conservative system. That much I agree with, but their pursuit of a Marxist utopia makes them terrible enemies of our civilization.

The way the game is played, the similarities are presented as self-evident and off-limits to challenge. So if somebody comes along and challenges the Enlightenment system that is in effect today, you scoff at them at best, but usually try to shut them down and punish them for daring to challenge it. Thus you never really think much about the wider spectrum of ideas. You barely are able to process what the Marxists are saying and doing, and because you won't even engage with them intellectually, you don't even understand how grave the threat is to all of us.
