I guess what STA is saying is that we went from tolerance to celebration.
From prohibition to shaming your kids for not going to a kegger.
From outlawing homosexuality to making it "fashionable"... and gay pride events with dudes gyrating wildly in thongs.
From puritanical aversion to sexuality to semi nude chicks promoting orgasm enhancement in the check out aisle.
From panicking about the satanic weed to celebrating 4:20.
We jumped clear across the median into the opposite gutter... and have to call another tow-truck.
Why are we such extremists?

The pendulum always swings back further first. The same thing happens in academic life too. Once the Romans were seen as some sort of peak in military thought that would be capable of defeating armies 1000 years after their fall. Then they were seen as nothing more than individuals feeding manpower into a meat grinder and slowly destroying their enemies through that. Then people down the line look at both the romanphiles and the contrarians and create a more reasonable narrative.
Once the shock value loses the value associated with it, we'll move back to not caring about weed and the "rebels" using it will move on to the next contrarian issue. I'd say trying to regulate behavior like this will do nothing but create an even greater counter-culture as you are simply feeding into the reason for people to utilize the drug.
Also why does one's position in society reflect on what they are saying? Just because Diogenes lives in a giant pot doesn't mean you can't discuss his view of the world with him.

This is why I claim they are actually an anti-civilizational force.
It is more like a social and psychological cancer.

I've been waiting 30 years to hear a reasonable explanation about how marijuana is worse than alcohol or cigarettes.
Number of deaths attributed to weed in the history of the world : 0
The other two can make no such claim.
Here's the response..... (Crickets)

I say legalize but avoid celebrating...
Simple as that.
The effort to decriminalize pot has led to all kinds of promotion of pot as a cure for everything...
It has been hailed all over the place as the next wonder drug.
And the marketing campaigns will continue to push that for max sales.
It isn't.
Smoking pot daily is just as bad a habit as any number of other bad habits... no worse... no better.
It provides temporary relief from all kinds of things... but the relief is temporary...
...and the side effects of pot accrue over time like any other Band-Aid solution...
So keep your kids off of it... and try not to get into a regular habit, if you can help it.
That my two cents.

It has exponentially more health benefits than alcohol and cigarettes combined.DrYouth wrote:

.
Can you name a single health benefit from smoking cigarettes?
The mental gymnastics one has to go through to pretend that pot is more harmful than cigarettes and alcohol are staggering. Has to be very noisy in the brain to make such a ridiculous conclusion.
Just had a friend go from stage 4 colon cancer to cancer free in 18 months. The only thing that made her chemo tolerable and allowed her to keep her weight was pot. Could either alcohol or cigarettes have done that?
Which of the three helps glaucoma patients relieve the pressure on the eyes?

Nicotine helps ADD and blocks xenoestrogen mimickers according to some studies I've heard about but haven't looked into. Smoking is probably the least healthy way to take nicotine though.Kath wrote:Can you name a single health benefit from smoking cigarettes?DrYouth wrote:
