Prisons would be quite efficient, I’d we could simply erect a wall around them and walk away. One wonders why we bother with all of the other measures to restrain inmates.

And you know, free entrance into a gang to survive and probably some non-consensual butt sex. And sometimes beatings.DBTrek wrote:Well, given that prisons give you free food, free housing, and free college I’d think a Bernie bro like yourself would be a little more supportive of the prez.Hanarchy Montanarchy wrote:"More like prison."DBTrek wrote:Walls never work for anything.
That's why we have open prisons with signs at the property limits reading "Turn around, you can't walk beyond this point because you are in jail".
A very good, if not positively glowing, description of wall building.
But you also get to work out for free too, and there are libraries. And I hear there's TV as well.

Thank you for showing that. Now I can see why you'd choose not to commit to that. I can almost see the whispering heads of industry lobbyists being behind "expanding opportunities for labour mobility" bit. However, neither what you quoted or reading about the International Organization for Migration, there's nothing to suggest that you'd have been "handing over" power to foreign elites. Still, the whole point of the pact, is to voluntarily commit to something. You understandably don't, so it's a good decision not to agree to it.DBTrek wrote:For those (like Bjorn), who may not be aware of just how BIG of a bullet we've just dodged - The UN Meeting was based on the Obama Administration supported New York declaration.
What sort of goals did this declaration contain?
Here's a few:
Nope.
- * Ensure that all refugee and migrant children are receiving education within a few months of arrival. (No word if legal citizenship is required, or what we do if they can't speak English)
* Work towards ending the practice of detaining children for the purposes of determining their migration status. (We won't say anything about people claiming that they're minors well into their 20s because there's no documentation to prove them wrong)
* Strongly condemn xenophobia against refugees and migrants and support a global campaign to counter it. (Holy shit! As if we're dumb enough to hand random foreign elites the power to enforce accusations of "bigotry" via force of global law. You must really think we're stupid)
* Find new homes for all refugees identified by UNHCR as needing resettlement; and expand the opportunities for refugees to relocate to other countries through, for example, labour mobility or education schemes. (None of this vaguely menacing wording sounds good)
* Strengthen the global governance of migration by bringing the International Organization for Migration into the UN system.
(Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight. And you can clearly fuck right on off with all that)
Ain't interested.
Sorry our sellout suit prez from yesteryear got you all riled up. You probably thought you were finally going to get to use the USA as the world's dumping ground for failed states, but Barack was too slow. There's a new ringmaster in the White House, and he's cutting back on the UN clown show.
Fame is not flattery. Respect is not agreement.

No one believes the wall on it's own will solve everything. Just because someone suggests a wall might be a good idea, that doesn't preclude other security measures from accompanying the wall.GrumpyCatFace wrote:Prisons would be quite efficient, I’d we could simply erect a wall around them and walk away. Seriously. They won't stay if they can't get a job nor services. This is a super easy fix. Make it more trouble than it's worth to hire illegal immigrants. Problem solved.

Indeed.
So many complex, real world problems can clearly be solved by simple strategies quickly devised by laymen. It’s a wonder we have any problems left in the world at this point, eh?

The wall is needed to sell that. The wall sells better than self deportation, just admit it already, and give Trump his due. If you want any of your solutions to be implemented, then be glad Trump made an Outrageous Opening Offer that will make that easier to do.Kath wrote:Seriously. Government never misses an opportunity to make a solution as complex and expensive as possible.DBTrek wrote:Indeed.

The wall sells, so bundle your favorite border security plans with the wall and they will sell better than they would on their own. Trump knows.
