That's what I assume.Speaker to Animals wrote:I don't know if it really pans out. A very rich guy who just wants to "own" a chick for sex hires them as assistants or maids or whatever. He at least gets something else out of the deal. Otherwise, he probably would not be rich..

No chance at all that you're talking out your ass.GrumpyCatFace wrote:This sort of thing is more common, during Gilded Age phases.
We all know about the cyclical nature of internet prostitution rings among young college girls in gilded ages.

Prostitution was common as fuck throughout all of history except for the time that women got the vote until now.

I was talking more specifically about the “mistress” model - the “girls on the side” retained full time, for money. But I do understand how that could have been confusing for our autistic posters. Apologies.Okeefenokee wrote:No chance at all that you're talking out your ass.GrumpyCatFace wrote:This sort of thing is more common, during Gilded Age phases.

In Daniel Bababouie's Carvaggio podcast he discussed how in the 16th century Rome had a population of 110,000 with 12,000 of those citizens being prostitutes. Their experiences varied somewhat. You had the rich mistresses who got paid handsomely by the nobles and wealthy merchants who slept with them, to the larger percentage who eked out a miserable and destitute existence giving back alley blowjobs. Think about that for a moment though. If these figures are to be trusted, a little more than 1 in 9 Romans were selling their bodies. That is insane. How could a city with that small of a population even support that high a percentage of prostitutes? Keep in mind, most of the johns were probably poor as fuck too. I'm just struggling to understand how this economy of sex for money could even be this saturated.

During the Renaissance? Rome was a wealthy place. Probably a good chunk of them were there for the merchants, artists, and tourists coming to town.heydaralon wrote:In Daniel Bababouie's Carvaggio podcast he discussed how in the 16th century Rome had a population of 110,000 with 12,000 of those citizens being prostitutes.
