Now, the next year? 1979? Okay, that year, the Stones had a comeback kid to deal with, because song of the year 1979 was definitely a redux...

Another song I listened to endlessly in the 70's, this one I could crank to eleven, and me ol' Da wouldn't complain, he'd come a runnin' with the air guitar...

Rocky Horror was huge, there was a Roxy on the Danforth in the 6ix and all they played was Rocky Horror... costumes, people on stage, throwing rice, the whole shebang...

No we are probably just as vulernable as are ancestors were during the Middle Ages. The difference would be that we have better technology, methods, knowledge on how it spreads, etc... It doesn't mean that we are anymore immune to it at all.GrumpyCatFace wrote:I think that most people have assumed that it was a freak mutation that created the Black Death, not the generic, base bacterium.Smitty-48 wrote:It's a bacteria not a virus, it can't be wiped out, it's always around everywhere, just don't wallow in rats and fleas and you'll be fine.
Would you presume that we're all immune to this strain, given our shared European heritage?

About a third of us have immunity to the Black Death from the CCRV mutation. After the last Black Death outbreak in the 1600s, it was the majority of us, but nothing has been selecting for that mutation since, so we are losing it.
Don't tell the likes of nukedog this, but a Black Death outbreak today would pretty much wipe out most of humanity except for those who have the mutation, which consists pretty much only white people.

That is a rare mutation, CCR5-delta 32 , and, no I don't think that a third of white people have it. Instead it's like 10% of all white people AND I believe in order to get it you have to have both parents carrying it as well.Speaker to Animals wrote:Penner wrote:No we are probably just as vulernable as are ancestors were during the Middle Ages. It used to be most of us, but after the Black Death disappeared, nothing selects for it. It's about 30%, depending upon the population, and yeah, it's mainly a European mutation, though it's possible the mutation can work its way into other races (but without some selective pressure in the environment, that's pretty unlikely).

Today this mutation is found people from Scandvania and Russia because (and this is still a theory) the plagued lingered in those places until the 19th century.Speaker to Animals wrote:Penner wrote:That is a rare mutation, CCR5-delta 32 , and, no I don't think that a third of white people have it.
