One great war film about insurgency warfare is "Battle of Algiers". Quite current. And well shows how both sides work in a urban guerilla setting.

If one hasn't seen it, it's one really good war film about Europeans fighting an insurgency in a Muslim country.

Except all three of those movies were cheese, Top Gun with Tommies instead of Tom Cruise, none of those three movies are in a class with Platoon, Apocalypse Now, and Saving Private Ryan, so get real.

The greatest British War movie, was Hope and Glory, that was a great one, best British movie of all time actually.

tae guk gi Is one of my favorite war movies. It's a bit cheesy but I love it.

American movie, shot in Ireland, although, it's not a great movie, Hollywood hasn't made the Saving Private Ryan version yet, so the bar is very low for WWI air war movies.

If Hollywood decided to put Spielberg on the case; whole new paradigm.

That's what Hollywood does with war movies, they change the paradigm, take it to a whole new level, and sweep aside everything that has come before, foreigners don't even think of making a Gallipoli or a Das Boot, until they see what Hollywood has done to change the paradigm.

I didn't like Korean Old Boy or Spike Lee Old Boy. There's something off about asian movies to me. Its like they want it to seem gripping and dramatic, but their mannerisms and acting is spastic and weird. Its almost like watching some kind of adult swim parody or something. I'm sure if I was born there I would appreciate them more.

The british can makes some great movies too. I'm not denying that. The French, not so much. My parents watch those European crime shows. Some of them are ok, not HBO level or anything, but watchable.
