Is this performance art? To demonstrate the juxtaposition of low approval for a legislative body but high reelection rates for incumbents?California wrote:My State rep is the only sane one in all of Sacramentoclubgop wrote:Your betters? They don't like the way it feels, but let's not talk about the outcomes.

What are you on about? You know the problem is that people only look for the R or D next to the name regardless of the electionclubgop wrote:Is this performance art? And what, you think going back to the state assemblies choosing senators would be any better? All you would get is the party machine choosing who they want to be senator
With that, the chances of getting real change in from people outside the parties would lessen even more
In the old way, you'd have to get the citizens of a state to elect enough outside reps that would be able to get a majority to elect a to elect another outsider that's waiting in the wings for his senatorial election. With direct election all it takes is a charismatic candidate to run and then you can get an outsider.

It didn't worsen then either.
Although you really can't judge whether the Amendment changed anything since media and information was revolutionized in the time since it was added to the Constitution

I used to really hate the 17th. Now I realize that as long as California and New York only get 2 votes each in the Senate, I really don't care how they are picked.
Plus, we're about to get Senator Kid Rock! :goteam: :drunk:
