I really wish the PRC would step up to the plate. This is their fucking mess.

With MLRS? More like 30 seconds. In fact, the MLRS can be in the air, before the enemy rounds impact. And it's "steel rain" the whole grid square gets taken out.BjornP wrote:How fast we talking in terms of that counterbattery fire? Honest question.
Moreover, the moment anything opens fire in this day and age, it immediately gives its position away to counterbattery radar, and the response time for counterbattery fires is now so fast, that shoot n' scoot is a very dangerous job indeed, never mind that when you're scooting you're not shooting, so counterbattery supresses fire markedly in of itsef.

They won't be firing back when NK's initial onslaught of artillery fire contains nonpersistent chemical weapons.
They'll be dropping over dead from toxins. And hours later when the chemicals go dormant NK will roll through and pick up all that nice military tech they left behind.

Classic Pentagon narrative; when the conventional threat exaggeration comes a cropper, invoke the WMD bogey and then wildly exaggerate the effects of that. /shrug.DBTrek wrote:They won't be firing back when NK's initial onslaught of artillery fire contains nonpersistent chemical weapons.

Well, far be it from me to challenge backwoods Toronto's opinion on a Korean War with a bunch of amateur "Pentagon narrative".

And I thought back in '02, when I got into the artillery as a conscript, I picked the (relatively) safer choice if it came to a war. Hell, they seemed happy enough that we could get ready to move out from a position in four minutes, and the top limit for moving away was eight minutes for when we used camoflage netting. Well... here's to hoping we won't get invaded in the next 30-40 years, then. Or that they'll put me someplace else, at least.Smitty-48 wrote:With MLRS? More like 30 seconds. No, not safe, everything is aimed at you, little ol' me, down in my trench, watching the steel rain go over on its way to your pos.BjornP wrote:And I thought back in '02, when I got into the artillery as a conscript, I picked the (relatively) safer choice if it came to a war.Smitty-48 wrote:With MLRS? The more attention you attract, the less safer you are. Main Battle Tank; deathtrap. Self Propelled Howitzer; same-same.

LOL
If you want safe, go Air Force. Artillery is one of our favorite targets.
If that doesn't give you an Air Force woody, then you need to get deported.

Well, I sorta miss that weird combo of anxious anticipation and childish giddiness that I got when our howitzer was firing. Both hated and loved that feeling of force flowing through the air, into the ground, up your feet and into your bones, guts and - if the powder yield was high enough - your skull. Somehow that memory feels a tiny bit tarnished now...
