That's true, but the ambitious ones are ditching their whiteness as it becomes a political liability.

This white Cuban dude who was my student body president described himself regularly as a "man of color". Regularly brought it up when someone criticized him. But the fucker had lighter skin than me, and fucking blue eyes! lol

Weird. Normally the opposite happens with Cubans. They reject the "Latino" label they are like, no, I'm white (if they are) but they don't openly talk about it because they will be criticized for that.

Thing is, Castro for whatever reason thought it would be a great idea to import a bunch of Africans to Cuba. That cultural enrichment left them so soured on black people that they do not identify as mestizo even when they are because that implies part black. So usually they will just stick with white or Hispanic white.
