How exactly will they do that? You won't find a bigger Russia Hawk on this here green earth; than Smitty LeMay, but I'm not seeing how exaclty Mr. Ivan is going to effect the take over of America at this juncture, short of preemptive nuclear counterforce, are you saying the Russians are preparing for a first strike against the CONUS?
Find a Bigger Russia Hawk? Lol.
Russia simply wants to derail NATO, that's their first priority, get a more important role in Europe (and the World), not to have war with the US. Yes, they aren't going to be the overlords of the US, but perhaps have a bigger role in Europe. Putin has a great chance to do that, now that it's known that a small amount of aktivnye meropriyatiya, active measures, taken against even the US ends up with minimal downside even if exposed. Now, Putin might just get lucky with Marine in France (fairly good chance) and also lucky that Merkel goes out (again a good chance). Now if some light handed active measures will help with that, why not? You can always deny it and people will believe the accusations are fake news. After all, confusion is one objective with active measures.
And besides, Smitty LeMay won't put up even a finger. I think Smitty LeMay is totally OK with NATO going the way of SEATO or CENTO, into the dustbin, as Smitty LeMay is thinks NATO isn't needed at all, as somehow the 1-to-1 defence pacts (like the US has with Taiwan or Japan or Phillipines) then made with the European countries will be enough. Of course I could be wrong about that. Yet Smitty LeMay isn't looking at already one so-called NATO member is already joining up with Russia in the Middle East and sidelining the US. Yep, who needs you to fumble up things in the Middle East? Leave it to others and go home.
Curtiss LeMay actually did care what happens even somewhere else than the Continental US.
Here's an actual quote from the actual LeMay, general Curtis LeMay:
We’re not shooting at the present time but we’re at war nevertheless. And if anyone who has any doubts in their mind about it should look at the past recent history in the last 40 years at what has happened. Russia has taken over, and not only so many ethnic groups and what as we now think of as Russia, but Latvia, Lithuania, Czechoslovakia, Romania, Bulgaria, Yugoslavia, China is Communist. Now they’re going into Africa, and now they’re coming into our section of the world, Central America. So we are definitely at war with Communism.

But of course it was the Cold War. Now it's totally different in every way, right?
