Well if I was a Leafs fan, Auston Matthews would probably be my favorite player too, can't hold that against you. American is not a deal breaker, maybe to Don Cherry it is, but I'm not Don Cherry. Hell the team a guy plays for isn't even a dealbreaker, or Steve Yzerman would have never been my favorite player, he can even play for my most hated rival, at least in Yzerman's case, that how dope he was.

America is not my hated rival, I've never hated Team USA, quite frankly, I'm not a hockey hater, I don't hate hockey teams, not even the Broad Street Bullies, not even the Habs, I even loved Soviet Red Army, I love the Leafs, but it does not follow that I have to hate other teams as a consequence, that's not my thing.

Most hated doesn't necessarily imply that much hatred, it's just fun to cheer against the Red Wings, or the Yanks.

Wish I could have experienced that Soviet rivalry, that would have been the shit.

All my rivalries are Canadian, I don't really feel any animosity towards American hockey fans, American hockey fans a not generally Leaf Haters, if I'm going to root for a team to lose, it's going to be the biggest Leaf Hater teams, which is Montreal, Vancouver, and Ottawa. I don't hate them, but I still want to see them get their Leaf Hater comeuppance.

Reportedly the Leafs are one of the twelve teams on Rick Nash's list who he would agree to be traded to, not that I'm pining for Rick Nash, he's not what the Leafs need, but it's still weird for the Leafs to be a preferred destination, Team Matthews ftw.

Dion Phaneuf traded to LA for Marion Gaborik, Ottawa retains 25% of Dion's salary.

Hmm. Elisha must be happy about going to LA, ol' Dion was more than willing to wave the NTC for that.

Leafs win this trade, they dump Dion's contract on Ottawa, get Calvin Pickard and Eemeli Rasanen in trade, then Ottawa has to scramble to get out from under the contract, having to take Gaborik back to do it.
