That whole scene is fairly hilarious.kybkh wrote:I'd say its likely a screed against Trump. This morning CNN had an analyst on who suggested the shooter picked these target because he knew them to be patriotic and was not saying what you think CNN would like to hear so the anchor immediately and emphatically started talking about the father, suggesting psychopathy was heretical only to be shut down by the analyst because psychopathy is not heretical and people who are psychopaths know the difference between good and bad they just choose bad. CNN then quickly ended the segment.Speaker to Animals wrote:Fuck. If there is a manifesto, I almost wish they wouldn't publish the contents. The ability for the Internet to provide comedy in a situation like this is a boon to an otherwise horrific attack. The fact that this piece of garbage killed himself before society can put him on trial and execute him makes it that much worse.
All this shit that happens on the Internet is a kind of process. Because the news is so pervasive, instantaneous, and even in HD, it's not like the old days when you read about something like this in a newspaper. People are drawn into it and the media is able to go into detail about the lives that were lost, mostly in positive ways that honor the dead, but still with the aggregate effect of making an event on the other side of the country more personal to the rest of us.
So of course we are going to have it out on the Internet. There's nothing wrong with it.

I don't mean the snide remarks to each other through message boards or youtube comments etc. I think this instantaneous "access to information" isn't all a net positive (and if it is its too soon to tell) there is no "cooking and cooling off" like there once was with printed stories among other reasons I disagree with your opinion that is natural, normal, or "good".

If this holds up. The media needs to take plenty of responsibility. Especially after the Congressional shooting. For 2 years they have been calling Trump evil.Speaker to Animals wrote:So, basically, we need mandatory mental health services for liberals so they will stop shooting people.

at the time it didnt seem like a good idea to me for the government to be picking and choosing what information we are allowed to see relating to these horrible incidents

Great website. Same one that broke down how the polls were being manipulated during the election.

I think it definitely has positive aspects. The internet free-for-all has a better chance at getting us the truth than waiting days for media gatekeepers to control what we can see and hear. People will post jokes or hoaxes but the edited photos can be identified as fakes eventually even if they fool people at first glance.GloryofGreece wrote:I don't mean the snide remarks to each other through message boards or youtube comments etc. I think this instantaneous "access to information" isn't all a net positive (and if it is its too soon to tell) there is no "cooking and cooling off" like there once was with printed stories among other reasons I disagree with your opinion that is natural, normal, or "good".
This guy had some reason for what he did and I hope we'll find out what it is but the more time that passes the less believable the story will be.

Internet knew Tom Petty died about 16 hours before the official channels could say "Yep, he's dead".
I think as long as people bear in mind the internet is an unsubstantiated rumor mill, then it's all good.
Sometimes the unsubstantiated rumors coming directly from people at the scene of an event are as correct as the fact-checked reports that follow.
Sometimes they're not.
Sometimes the fact-checked reports are wrong as well.
