I believe Progressivism sells the same lies as Marxism and the main issues with both are:
1. No Inalienable Rights for the individual
2. The Government must expand and suck up the lions share of the budget to improve society
3. The Government is greater than the individual

However, there's no real danger we ever let them run much of anything anyway. If there was any chance we were going to become a Theocracy it would have happened around the start of the Progressive Era when about 90% of the country was Christian. Why not? In fact the expansion of rights to certain things like basic shelter and health care is part of what some people hate about Progressivism.

True... but the progressive idea is that one expects savings as peoples living conditions become more secure (e.g. less medical bankruptcy) in areas like crime, addictions, emergency health costs, work productivity and jails which catch a lot of the social failures... although this is certainly debatable...

The Government is meant to serve the individual and is still answerable to the individual in a democracy... progressives are pro-democracy.
