Are not. They're the only institution in this country teaching kids leadership and self reliance instead of leading them by the nose with helicopter and snowplow parenting. My Eagle Scout son is one of the youngest trained, professional glacier & ice climbing guides in the country, at 20 he has people's lives in his hands even younger than if he went to one of the Military Academies. What he learned about leadership, responsibility, and group dynamics in the Scouts simply cannot be taught at home.
My shy, bookish daughter has even gained from BSA, she's now in her 2nd summer as a BSA camp counselor, and has learned to wrangle gangs of rambunctious 11-13 year olds to teach them basics like knots. They even had 2 troops of newly formed female BSA Scouts this summer! These BSA camps run on a shoestring and are powered by teens taking responsibilities rather than sitting in front of a screen or being chauffeured around to their over-scheduled supervised 'activities'. There are just a handful counselors over 21, and not many more over 18.
We are only accustomed to dealing with like twenty online personas at a time so when we only have about ten people some people have to be strawmanned in order to advance our same relative go nowhere nonsense positions. -TheReal_ND
