If you make it a simple binary, the American electorate will give the easy answer, if you actually tried to execute, with all the humble pie ramifications therein, they would buck the rider.
Just scratch the surface, and the triumphalist imperial hubris and want what we want when we want it, is right there where it's been the whole time.
That's pretty much the American electorate in a nutshell, they want to have their cake and it eat it too, who knew?

Re: Current US Military
A bunch of the isolationists on this board didn't get the message, they are too busy projecting their views on foreign wars on the rest of the electorate. The electorate thought Trump was more pro-military than Clinton, Trump was viewed as the tough guy on foreign affairs, not some hermit candidate, you dummies, wake the fuck up. America First doesn't mean complete withdrawal from the international stage, and if you thought it was, you're a rube.Smitty-48 wrote:Saying "end foreign wars" is easy, giving up the imperial hubris, pork in the districts, and want to be treated as a hyperpower with no equals; whole nother ball game.

Unless there are a bunch of body bags coming home, the electorate actually pays no attention to it, Americans don't like flag draped coffins, but so long as you keep it down to a dull roar, they're not gonna get too worked up about it. /reality check

And you can have lots of incidents where body bags come home, and in the moment, the Americans will get all maudlin about it, but wait five minutes and they're back to the jingly keys, so anything short of significant casualties over a prolonged period is easily sustainable.

It's like there's a pretty comprehensive military operation going on in Syraq right now, and most of the time it doesn't even make the news, and when it does, it's there for a cycle, and then gone again, and they go right back to Trump Derangement Syndrome vs. the Return to Normalcy 2.0

Everything is just a partisan cudgel in America, when the liberals are in charge they will abide the foreign wars on their watch, when they're not they use it as a cudgel, and same with the conservatives, so as with anything in America, the only war that really matters is Red Team v. Blue Team.

Blaming only the politicians and the government, that's simply blaming Leviathan, the voters deserve the blame as well, voters choose the politicians and the government, they keep voting for it, so no need to front like they are blameless victims.

Oh Indeed, Colonel Bacevich, the electorate blames a Leviathan which is really just them, their ideological partisan resentment of one another, and associated entrenched interests.

And when they ceaselessly repeat their mindless blame leviathan mantra, over and over ad nauseam, none of them having any responsibility for it, it's all just the leviathan, the leviathan, the leviathan, who is going to cause the Collapse, World War Three, and/or Mass Famine?

You're just another partisan bitch hack in an ocean of partisan bitch hacks, United Nations Intervention Force America Fuck Yeah is just as prevalent, the urbane liberal left is just as hawkish, so long as you sprinkle the Humanitarian Pixie Dust on it.GrumpyCatFace wrote:Half of it anyway. The Terrible Swift Sword to free the Slaves everywhere is an All American thing, that simply comes in two flavours.
I mean, this didn't start in 1945, it started in 1861, it just didn't break out of the CONUS until the Spanish American War.
Who said Remember the Maine? Was that Dixie? Nope, California liberal Democrat William Randolph Hearst, Rosebud.
What, you think it was different back then? Nah, Red Team v. Blue Team didn't just start the other day, America doesn't change, it all comes back around on a cycle.
