Smitty-48 wrote:Dog and pony show, the "ban" was just "temporary", the "ban" has apparently been lifted, since DPRK coal exports to China were 2 million tonnes a month from January to March, up 13% from the same time last year. They use the NK anthracite coal to make Chinese steel, to dump on the US market, so they ain't really cutting the NK's off, too much pressure from the Chinese steel mills to get that low priced anthricite.Alexander PhiAlipson wrote:And they stopped because? Did the Chinese cut off North Korean coal importation? Not even Smitty knows.

Re: North Korea News
The Chinese are want for the NK coal, because it is very high quality, again, at slave labour pricing, if it wasn't "North Korea" priced, they wouldn't be so interested, and as Okie points out, if they are want to bring more expensive coal in from across the sea, they are going to Australia, who can beat the US price by 20% just on exchange rate alone.
So again, I'm not seeing a big export opportunity for US coal, which is, just by the US dollar alone, some of the most expensive in the world.

Re: North Korea News
Well, Canada, Australia, and the USA, are the leading producers of the higher quality anthracite or metalurgical coal, for making steel, as opposed to the lower quality ignite or thermal coal, for generating electricity, but we and the Australians have got you beat on price, because the US dollar makes your coal more expensive by default.Okeefenokee wrote:We've got the best coal.Smitty-48 wrote:The Chinese are want for the NK coal, because it is very high quality, again, at slave labour pricing, if it wasn't "North Korea" priced, they wouldn't be so interested, and as Okie points out, if they are want to bring more expensive coal in from across the sea, they are going to Australia, who can beat the US price by 20% just on exchange rate alone.

The Chinese export thermal coal, while importing coking coal, but the whole industry is switching to natural gas, even in China, so the price of coking coal has been falling steadily, it's not the money maker that it once was, none the less, nobody is looking to pay full pop in the USA, as their US dollars go further in Canada and Australia, basically, we're going to put you right out of the coal business, just as the Chinese are going to put you out of the steel business, if you want some commodity work, you'd better hurry up and build us our pipelines, because we're going to need to start pumping gas to the Chinese steel industry instead of coal, and we can't very well pump it through our pristine wilderness, that shit gets spilt, so it's gotta go through the USA, where the people don't matter, and the foreign corporations rule.
