For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.

Well, they can make killing more easy, but the will , the motivation, is what matters. Guns aren't magical. They don't mind control people to make them want to kill people.Montegriffo wrote:Guns make killing people very easy, it's their job after all. Sure, but making it easier inevitably makes it more common. Lets say the London bridge attackers had guns instead of knives, it seems to me that more people would have died that day.BjornP wrote:Well, they can make killing more easy, but the will , the motivation, is what matters. So if you are motivated to kill then a more efficient weapon would mean you could kill more people. I can't see any other logical conclusion.

So a society where something you say or do may get you shot is more polite? Excuse me but I would consider shooting someone for bad manners rather impolite.Fife wrote:An armed society is a polite society. Manners are good when one may have to back up his acts with his life. -- RAH

When you don't know who is going to pull a gun on you when you do makes it less likely you are going to.Montegriffo wrote:So a society where something you say or do may get you shot is more polite? You're not fooling anyone Achmedagriffo.Montegriffo wrote:Well obviously it would be pretty pointless trying to remove handguns from the US. Nobody has any idea how many are in circulation and you don't even register them. We aren't on an island.
Britain on the other hand has very few guns in circulation and tough controls on registration and storage. Most people want it to stay that way. In our case gun legislation does keep them out of the hands of bad guys.
This being the Euro bashing thread I don't really want to turn it into another row about US gun control though.
All I really care about is dismissing the ridiculous claims, from people who have never even been to the UK, that our society is near collapse and that we are only days away from an Islamic caliphate.
