Dad said they got a lot of wind. Trees down everywhere. He's going out to get firewood soon.

Fox 5 out of Atlanta was on the square in Thomaston. Haven't found it yet. Big news in little town.

There was a lot of overhype on Irma. But, it's good for news ratings.

In 2005 I remember being told that Global Warming was going to make Katrina look small, hurricanes would continue every year getting worse. How wrong could they be, we didn't have a major hurricane for 12 years. So, before the Climate Change chicken little gets completely out of hand, lets remember every time they predict stuff they are wrong.

Mother nature is cooking up round four now: Hurricane Maria is on the same trajectory as Irma.

This year is pretty damned anomalous. Hopefully it's not the new normal. Fuck.

Its not the new norm, it's cyclical. First big hurricane year in 12 years. Seems bad now, but people that want to live in Florida should know if you stay there long enough there will be hurricanes. We haven't had a huge devastating Tornado in a while, but it will happen again in Tornado alley.

There doesn't seem to be a previous cycle for this, Carlus.

Well, Maria might be round 5. While Jose, even though only a Cat 1 and probably will get downgraded, might hit the East Coast later this week.

I would be very surprised if we got hit with another hurricane ever again to be honest. The way the clinate is changing should make impossible for the storms to hit land without evaporating.

How do we know? Really, we have maybe 200 - 250 of moderately accurate weather records to work from. Maybe we are in a cycle that comes around once a millennium. We'd never know. Maybe our perceptions are that it's worse. The Galveston Hurrican of 1900 killed around 10,000 people. The Karankawa Tribe would simply migrate out of the Hurricane threatened areas during that season. Meaning, these storms were common enough that they regularily migrated.

Look at all these Hurricanes we know about prior to 1600
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_A ... 0#Pre-1500
17th C Hurricanes
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_A ... th_century
18th C Hurricanes
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_A ... th_century

IMO, we think these things are abnormally bad because we've encroached on Hurricane areas and are putting permanent settlements there. Maybe, we could learn something from the Karankawa.
