It lowers the wage and culls opportunity from the no-skill American worker, who in turn votes for more government programs, which results in a near constant demand to raise the taxes of the middle class, which impacts to office techs wage.GrumpyCatFace wrote:

Minimum Wage just went up to $11.50 in Washington State. The price of milk is $2.68 a Gallon.

H1B's are where they hire outside our borders for cheaper labor that eventually goes home, right?GrumpyCatFace wrote:Jedi appears to be talking about border-jumpers. This country is a country of immigrants. Right now what we have is a group of people squatting on the American ideal, whereas it should be open to people willing to work hard, and take up the flag and participate in the experiment that is America.
Supply and demand are what drive the wages you are bitching about. Something to consider..
StA appears to be talking about H1Bs.
See I don't agree with that. With few exceptions. Seem to be just coming here to drain our wealth. Want to work in America? Gotta be American, but I would open up being American to those that want to work hard. Border jumpers are showing a lot of initiative, I'd say.
I'm not sure how I'd write that law though, to avoid unintended consequences.
I'm just going to quote this, because it gives it better than I do:
We should be about attracting and retaining the best people from around the world, those that will push forward the American ideal, and make them American. As long as they exhibit essential Americanism, then welcome to America. What is true of creed is no less true of nationality. There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all. This is just as true of the man who puts “native” before the hyphen as of the man who puts German or Irish or English or French before the hyphen. Americanism is a matter of the spirit and of the soul. Our allegiance must be purely to the United States. We must unsparingly condemn any man who holds any other allegiance. But if he is heartily and singly loyal to this Republic, then no matter where he was born, he is just as good an American as any one else.
The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic. The men who do not become Americans and nothing else are hyphenated Americans; and there ought to be no room for them in this country. The man who calls himself an American citizen and who yet shows by his actions that he is primarily the citizen of a foreign land, plays a thoroughly mischievous part in the life of our body politic. He has no place here; and the sooner he returns to the land to which he feels his real heart-allegiance, the better it will be for every good American. There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.
I appeal to history. Among the generals of Washington in the Revolutionary War were Greene, Putnam, and Lee, who were of English descent; Wayne and Sullivan, who were of Irish descent; Marion, who was of French descent; Schuyler, who was of Dutch descent, and Muhlenberg and Herkimer, who were of German descent. But they were all of them Americans and nothing else, just as much as Washington. Carroll of Carrollton was a Catholic; Hancock a Protestant; Jefferson was heterodox from the standpoint of any orthodox creed; but these and all the other signers of the Declaration of Independence stood on an equality of duty and right and liberty, as Americans an.d nothing else.
So it was in the Civil War. Farragut`s father was born in Spain and Sheridan`s father in Ireland; Sherman and Thomas were of English and Custer of German descent; and Grant came of a long line of American ancestors whose original home had been Scotland. But the Admiral was not a Spanish-American; and the Generals were not Scotch-Americans or Irish-Americans or English-Americans or German-Americans. They were all Americans and nothing else. This was just as true of Lee and of Stonewall Jackson and of Beauregard.

Yeah, I’ve been a tech contractor for twelve years, the contracts are six months long. Every six months the productive stay and the dead weight cycles out.Kath wrote:Really?DBTrek wrote: I re-apply for my job every 6 months, think about that.

And that’s when things run smoothly. Sometimes the whole contracting company cycles out, and you’re out in the cold with only your resume, achievements, and reputation to get you another job.

LOL, wut?
Wages are a product of supply and demand. Period. Full stop. The only exceptions to that come from price controls like minimum wage.
That's not correct. They actually get paid more in some cases because the employers don't have to pay taxes on them (and they don't pay any taxes). Meanwhile they get plenty of gibs that Jedi is paying for in his payroll tax from his minimum wage job. That's less money Jedi makes to fund this demographic replacement policy.
Border jumpers are incentivized to breed. Their kids get free education. They get preferred admission to universities that Jedi does not receive. They get scholarships that Jedi cannot receive no matter how qualified because of his race. Those kids go on to take office jobs, engineering jobs, and more. When you have an open borders policy combined with this ridiculous anchor baby system we have, border jumpers are one generation away from flooding your skilled labor pools.
We actually don't need more people. Not at all. We need to deport people. We need to cancel visas and focus on assimilating the people we are now stuck with who were given citizenship. This could take generations.

1 - The no-skill American worker is not working farm fields. This has been shown repeatedly.DBTrek wrote:It lowers the wage and culls opportunity from the no-skill American worker, who in turn votes for more government programs, which results in a near constant demand to raise the taxes of the middle class, which impacts to office techs wage.GrumpyCatFace wrote:

2 - Using no-skill Americans at min wage is not profitable for Big Ag. The food system is so broken that it's not profitable without illegal labor.
3 - a constant demand to raise middle-class wages is not a negative, imo. They're barely keeping up with inflation, if you didn't notice.

Oh, gotcha. Nerd is a contractor as well, but his contract lengths vary. I didn't get your context.DBTrek wrote:

1. The no-skill American worker isn’t working farm fields because a cheaper alternative is available. Derp.
2. If American wages make produce unprofitable then it is truly folly to continue to produce it. Similar to complaining that without slave labor cotton is unprofitable. First, the assertion is likely incorrect. Second, propping up an industry that can only exist through exploitation of non-citizens is immoral.
3. I said taxes went up, not wages.

I honestly think most men actually judge you by the woman on your arm more than anything, thus why the wealthy feel the need for trophy wives.
Marty's always talking about the male dominance hierarchy, but absent some sort of physical confrontation, sports or perhaps a fight, the pecking order is sussed out by the females, not the males, the females decide who is at the top of the pecking order, by choosing a male to mate with.

My last year at Microsoft was all three month contracts. I bailed for the gig I have now, but it was a six month effort.Kath wrote: Oh, gotcha. Nerd is a contractor as well, but his contract lengths vary. I didn't get your context.
