If someone goes to extraordinary lengths to come here to work hard, it seems like me they're exhibiting the proto-American ideal. Not the modern American ideal, which makes laziness a virtue, but the original American ideal. We didn't exactly abide by the law when we told Britain to fuck off. Can't fault someone for wanting to make their lives better through hard work, even if they are illegal immigrants. Only thing I can fault them with is if they become American, if they lift another flag equal or higher than the American flag. That bothers me, but people coming here just to work hard? Nah man. We should at least pay them minimum wage though.
IOW, you don't believe in a sovereign nation's right to choose who gets to come in to their country? Why have countries at all, then? Is that what you are after? One giant global Kumbaya nation? Sounds totally practical. What could go wrong?
I'm a citizen of this sovereign nation arguing for a different kind of immigration policy.
That's not revolutionary, Kath.
I'm not saying to go to extra-legal means to abolish borders. I'm not stepping outside of legal bounds and demanding revolution. I'm saying we should set our immigration policy like I said above.

You are your own worst enemy, then.
and?
This country is a country of immigrants. Right now what we have is a group of people squatting on the American ideal, whereas it should be open to people willing to work hard, and take up the flag and participate in the experiment that is America.
Supply and demand are what drive the wages you are bitching about. Something to consider..

Back at ya.
I still like yah Smitty, your invective makes me happy. I was at work a lot of yesterday, and I had a very productive day thinking if how Smitty was here, I'd take him down a notch or two.

Jedi appears to be talking about border-jumpers. People that perform actual 'work' for less than min-wage. Nothing to do with supply/demand OR the labor market that any American is involved in.
StA appears to be talking about H1Bs. Or he's afraid that border jumpers will somehow swamp higher-paid jobs without language, STEM, or computer skills.

Do you work hard? Be honest.
Not do you make a lot of money, or none of that, but do you work hard?
Of course.
I don’t get paid to break even or lose my employer money.
I get paid for doing what I do at a level most others cannot.
What ... you think the tech industry thrives by hiring people with a convenience store work ethic and ambition? I re-apply for my job every 6 months, think about that.

We've had a wink/nod open-border policy with Mexico since Reagan. It's been the way you like it for a very long time. A whole lot of your fellow citizens disagree with you and think we should know who is coming here. I tend to agree.

LOL, wut?
Wages are a product of supply and demand. Period. Full stop. The only exceptions to that come from price controls like minimum wage.

You spent the day thinking about that? Sad little man, indeed, wot?
Sounds like you just need a girlfriend, Jedi, basically you're just lonely.

Yes, but the entire market does not react to one segment having a higher supply - ie: More border jumpers picking vegetables does not lower the wage of an office tech.
