With all the thoughts on what ancient people thought about eclipses, where's the stories about their reactions to seeing that shit? And then getting hit with a fucking hurricane of wind and rain after the gods took away the ocean?Hastur wrote:It's amazing to sea the power of this thing. The ability to move an Ocean. Re: Hurricane Irma Thread AKA Floridian Devastation
I went down to Key Largo this weekend on sunday morning to go boogie boarding. I got up early to catch some big waves. The storm took my board and sent it out to sea. This is a one of a kind board that they no longer make. I am pretty furious. Houses can be rebuilt, but if factories stop making the tony hawk themed boogie boards you are shit out of luck. Right now I am trying to launch a class action lawsuit against FEMA and the state of Florida for not adequately warning people about Irma. They did not give me enough information to make an informed decision about going to the Keys this weekend, and as a result I lost one of my most valuable possessions. This is not ok, and no amount of money will make up for the loss. The government should do a better job warning people about storms, because I did not know it was going to be this windy. Rick Scott really let us all down.

I don't have any water or food because I didn't know I needed to have that stuff ready. This is intolerable!

At least we have the EPA to save Mother Gaia and all the innocent insects; we can be thankful for that.
IF ONLY THERE WERE SOME SIMPLE AND EFFECTIVE MEANS OF KILLING THEM IN LARGE NUMBERS: They survived the hurricane. Now a ‘mosquito explosion’ could be coming.

Re: Hurricane Irma Thread AKA Floridian Devastation
No real damage to my home (Tampa Bay). Powers been out since Sunday and I finally got my hands on a generator and fan yesterday so the famity can get some relief from the 95+ temps daily since Irma,. Hot as fuck during the day and folks tempers are starting to show all across the city I work in. I'm helping with dam age assessments and identist road blockages and down lines. Folks keep running to my truck thinking I'm the power company to yell and scream at me as to why they dont have powe yet. I try to explain what the situation is and defuse their anGermany but its getting harder each day to keep my cool. I'm only sleeping 3-4 hours a day due to heat and having to refuel the geneator every few hours. Last night I slept on a our concrete floor in front of an oscillating fan. There have been reports of looters so when the generator goes off at night I'm armed in case it's someone taking it vs run out of fuel.Right now the only thing being powered in my house is the freezer or fridge every 8 hours and a power strip to charge phones and the fan.
Speaking of phones, T-MOBILEshould be fucking ashamed of themselves, that service was completely useless for two days post Irma. Luckily, my new city job came with a Verizon iPhone. It was spotty but at least I could make a few calls to family, friends, and coworkers.
We still have approx 200k without power in my county alone and there absolutely no fucking way they will have all power restored to the county by tomorrow evening like they (Duke Energy) has been promising daily here. My best guess is at least another 1 to 2 weeks for the county to have full power back.
Ice is a prime resource right now as well as gas. The Port of Tampa opened yesterday and they claim fuel will be readily available by this weekend. Food stores empty fast daily as well as resturants. I invited my wife and kid to lunch at a diner while I was at work yesterday so they could eat in an A/C building. We ordered our food at 1100 and 10 minutes later the owner comes out to say there is no more burgers, no more beef and no more eggs until they can get resupplied. This happens daily at most places.
On a positive note, I have never seen a community pull together more than I have after Irma passed. Folks were out cutting fallen trees in their yards, the neighbors and the roads. Food and supplies shared without a second thought and general brothgerhood abounds. It's a shame that it took a natural disaster to bring folks together again. I hope it lasts.
Gonna run for now. It's pitch black in the house and outside. The only light is from my handheld as I type this. Time to charge it up and try to get some sleep.

Fill a spray bottle with water, and use it constantly on yourself. Evaporation is the easiest ac.
Cook up that freezer food asap, and turn it off if the you can. Save your fuel.
