Looks like somewheres around $100B in crop value alone. Without illegals, the costs triple.
It's an economic distortion, that makes our dollars far more valuable in Mexico than they are here. Win-win.
If you want to stop it, then stop the distortion.
So, we should just use our fellow man as cheap labor mules so we can pay less for our grilled chicken salad?
Immigration creates problems for the US and Mexico. In the US the much belabored low wages for Americans are directly affected by the supply of cheap Mexican Labor. Mexico is able to continue as a failed State, corrupted by Narco Kingpins, because we create a safety valve for the corrupt Mexican government. Without US dollars flowing back into Mexico, the Mexican government would have to reckon with the Drug Lords and a mass of unemployed poor desperate people. This look the other way so big business can have cheap labor in the US and Mexican corrupt politicians can stay in power needs to end. It's bad for the average people of both countries.
He's another potential bonus to shutting off immigration and a families food bill goes from say $400 a month to $1200 a month something is going to change damn fast. Americans will suddenly start cutting excess calorie intake, anyone with industry will start to grow their own food and with the financial incentive within a decade robots will be created that can takeover the difficult work of picking produce, etc.
All good things, sure. But you simply cannot cut off the tap all at once. The system will not withstand that kind of shock.
The part about American wages is a complete non-sequitor. Mexican labor stops you from getting $15/hr for field work, that’s about it. It has zero effect on the trades or technology workers.
You want to be paid what you’re worth based on productivity, look to the ownership and shareholders. That’s where your money went.
At the federal, state, and local levels, taxpayers shell out approximately $134.9 billion to cover the costs incurred by the presence of more than 12.5 million illegal aliens, and about 4.2 million citizen children of illegal aliens.
CATO says they account for too many border jumpers, regardless, still billions.
Using the average number of illegal immigrants as estimated by Pew, CMS, and CIS instead of FAIR’s number lowers their report’s estimated cost by $11.6 billion.
I'm not sure either of these studies factor in prison costs, National Review says the US spends an additional 1.9 Billion dollars on incarceration of illegal aliens who have been tried and convicted. We have approximately 300,000 illegal aliens in prison and they make about around 30% of our prison population.
So, Yeah, Billions a year is Legit. If a wall cuts down Illegal immigration by 66% we'll probably pay for it in a decade or less.
Even if we were to assume that this is absolutely true, it's not accounting for offsetting effects. That money goes somewhere, not into their pockets.
+ Profits/employment to hospitals, healthcare, schools, government workers
+ Obvious benefits to construction/agriculture/hospitality businesses
+ Increased GDP due to boosted business profits
Now I'm not going to argue that this is a net positive, other than for the food supply. But it's not like we hand them $130B in cash money either.
Of course this fucker tries to frame it as a fucking stimulus.

Then let's just bring back slavery. Can you imagine how cheap shit would be?
Fucking cunt.

It's not going to be cut off like a spigot. I would note though that we have done that in recent history. In the days following 9/11 we closed our borders, and it remained that way for a month or more. It had no real big impact on us.
We should approach immigration in a thoughtful, regulated manner that balances humanitarian needs of others and long term fitness of our country. Right now we pretty much have a free for all. If we need additional labor in the country that we cannot meet with our own citizens we should look at how many people to bring in, what skill sets we need and then where we should admit people in. Logical, simples straightforward.

Sure. Now try explaining that to the Okees.
I don't think Okee would have a problem with any of that. Unless we enforce our borders we can never have logical immigration policy. In certain places a Big Beautiful Wall is the best way achieve border security. Mexico is going to pay for it anyway, one way or another, be it tariffs, remittances, or whatever, Mexico is going to pay a huge chunk. Not joking.

Explain what to me?
Your entire position is that you need illegal immigration to ensure you don't have to pay normal prices for labor.
My wife's sister came here to study at Harvard at sixteen. She works for Goldman Sachs. You're the cotton picker, fuckwad.
It's fucking pathetic to see you over and over cry that you need illegal immigrants because you can't feed your family without a stable of cheap laborers to pick up your slack. You're such an inept father that you need to cry for cheap immigrant laborers to come in to do the work that you can't do to provide for your family, and you think you have any room to call me out?
Oh no! If you take away my immigrant labor, I won't be able to feed my kids!
There is nothing I would hate more than for my children to think that the only way I could support them was to exploit other people for their gain. They would never respect me as a father, and yours won't either.

Not only that he complains about H1B visas. So if he has to compete against a legal, educated, and skilled immigrant suddenly that's a problem. Gotta keep them darkies unskilled and illegal, can't give them good jobs and legal recourse.
I was referring to the larger crowd of trailer folk that will scream “traitor” if trump tries to back down from a ‘big beautiful physical waste of money’.
