Airplanes have not rendered a wall obsolete. Walls were never meant to stop airplanes. Not everyone crosses the border via airplane, boat, underground tunnel or ladder. Plenty cross on foot and until that stops walls will have their uses in aiding border security.

or the fact that the only poor bastards crossing the desert on foot are the ones working hard labor in our fields?

2. I still think we can do better than a physical wall.

In many places along the border sure, but in some spots a physical wall is going to help a bunch and pretending that it won't help in these instances makes little sense. Walls simply are not as ineffective in all circumstances as you anti-border wall people here on MHF tend to think.

We most certainly agree that walls are not ineffective in all circumstances, I am not that black and white.

The political appeal of a wall is undeniable -- a powerful mental image, something the electorate can really understand.

I'm not sure I support building much more physical wall, but I also believe that I am heavily biased -- I am in a wealthy little city in the north, so of course mexican immigration is not a problem for me, but I recognize that in other areas of the country, this is a major issue to folks. As such, I defer out of respect to my fellow citizens, if they want a wall, they want a wall, this ain't my fight.

They aren't the only illegal immigrants. A wall will stop the one's who don't get a VISA in the first place and cross on foot without US government approval. You are the one being ridiculous claiming walls are obsolete and won't stop anyone from crossing the border, yet fencing somehow will. You have no good argument against a border wall, all you have is it won't solve the entire problem, and a border wall isn't meant to solve the entire problem asshat, anymore than a border fence is.

Just because you don't know the advantages a wall has over a fence doesn't mean that a wall has no advantages. A fence is flismy, a wall is a lot more solid. You can cut through a fence, it's a lot harder to cut through a wall and that is just the tip of iceberg dude who has zero imagination and can't think of obvious ways that a wall has advantages over a fence.
