Moreover, in addition to Russia being no threat to America economically, they do present a plausible ally of convenience which many Americans are willing to consider, because unlike most of America's supposed allies, the Russians are comparitively unrestrained by political correctness and liberal blubbering for the enemy, unlike the Western Europeans, the Russians are prepared to put warheads on foreheads, and since Americans view most of the targets as being plausible threats of one sort or another, be it ISIS/ISIL, or be it Kurdish PKK/YPG, or be it the Northern Alliance in Kabul, the Americans don't give a fuck anymore, they're all bad, if Russia will bomb some of them while America bombs others, and so everybody is getting bombed in the process, whatevs, it's not like Germany & Co. is ever going to do anything about it, so might as well give the Russians a chance.

I mean, you only have to look at America's ostensible NATO ally Turkey, to see how muddy the waters have become, because Turkey is now an Islamic State, which is trying to overthrow the secular Russian proxy in Damascus, while turning a blind eye to ISIS, while at the same time conducting a war against America's chosen proxies the Kurds, when in fact, none of that is actually in America's interests, and in fact, the Russians would be the ones which America is in de facto alignment with.

The Russians and Damascus holding the line in western Syria, while the Kurds box ISIS in from the other direction vs. The Islamic State Alliance; which one of these looks more like America's interests?

I mean, hell-oh; ISIS literally has safe havens inside of Turkey, protected by Erdogan and the MIT, again, that's ISIS, being harbored by a supposed NATO ally? But Russia is the threat to America? Not necessarily, and certainly not imminently, and not really by any direct military means.

There are no friends, only interests, and in a multipolar world of ever shifting allegiances, that only becomes even more the case, you have to be prepared to be free agents, who will work with anybody, or against anybody, depending on where they are standing at any given moment, and in such a world, bipolar things like NATO and the EU, have simply become obsolete, and the American electorate, is simply getting out ahead of Washington on this, whether Washington likes it or not.
