Well I don't see what is "off the deep end" about God, Queen, and Country, the difference with the Americans is simply that they decentralized the constitutional monarchy from hereditary to democratic so that it became God, Everyman a King, and Country.

They didn't say Man is God, but they did say Men are Kings, otherwise, is essentially the same, the Kings defending the right, in the name of God, for Country.

Well therein lies the issue, even if you're not God fearing, even if you're not religious, ultimately, even in simply a procedural sense, that divine mandate is in fact your last line of defense against a tyranny, with your mandate to go to war against said tyranny therein, not as unlawful combatants without standing, but as Westphalian sovereigns.
