I have honestly never met an immigrant, who said he wanted more taxes, more regulation, and more nanny state intervention, quite the opposite, all the immigrants I meet, if you bring up a Leftist policy, they say "that's communism! Communists should be shot!"

Bear in mind, the majority of immigrants here these days, are from Asia and South Asia, and they're not the poor ones, they're the monied elites from those countries, because quite frankly, these days, you basically have to buy your way into Canada, generally through starting a business.
