When some drunk asshole with a safe car plows into you in your death cage and lives, you will at least know that the pearly gates of DIY heaven won't be barred.

Own.
Goal.
If you mean a deathtrap such as a 1986 Chevy Blazer S10 which has a steel frame, weighs in 1.5 tons and gets only 2 MPG less than today's trucks... in where I have had an 18 wheeler back into one and I was able to drive away in it, then yeah, I'll take that deathtrap.

Especially since over 1/2 of the cars in the US are recalled because Air-Bags were overpressurized and would have killed someone. Or where the breaks failed because of electronics, etc...

I've gotten into a head-on collision while being in one, the person that hit me went to the hospital, I went to work.

I'll take my death trap over your "safe" car any time of day.
You get in a lot of accidents. I would recommend a safer vehicle. 1986 had almost 20 automobile deaths per 100,000. Not a good year.
HAIL!

Her needs America so they won't just take his shit away like in some pussy non gun totting countries can happen.

In the 1980s, our parents used to let us play on the floor of the van with our legos and toys without even a seatbelt. Now kids are locked into the vehicle like astronauts and the other passengers are surrounded by air bags and an auto body designed to diffuse kinetic energy.

Or in the back of a pickup and just have us bounce around as we hit potholes, we'd hold onto each other just so we didn't fall out. Our dogs would be back there as well sliding as we stopped with the rest of us. We had a blast growing up.

There is a difference between being safe and over-protective.

HM is only here to discuss two things:

    2. Whether or not regulation can increase safety.
Ergo, he's not interested in any conversations about *NOT* more gun control, and he's only seeking a yes/no on whether or not regulations *can* improve safety.

As I said, little minds take shelter behind tiny factoids and extremely limited conversation.

But he's not pro gun control. Nope. And he hates him some red herrings!

Hey now, I didn't start the 'let bang'uns!' thread.

If you want to start the 'rights are important' thread, I'd be happy to agree with almost anything in it.

I don't think I have ever heard a 'not changing the subject and focusing on specifics=small minded' argument before. Real knights move there.

This morning I got up and Jennifer and Kimberly were eating Pop Rocks in front of the TV set watching Captain Kangaroo while Matt was already out in the backyard with a glass of Tang. I sat down and had a cigarette. I really wanted to watch my programs but I didn’t want to have to get up and change the channel or mess with the antenna to get it to come in clear, so I let the girls continue until I was done with my cigarette. I made sure to tell them not to drink any Pepsi for a couple hours so the Pop Rocks wouldn’t explode in their stomachs. That happened to some kid on TV, you know.

lolyeah, when I was little kid I would stand between the seats in the VW hippie van, even in a fender bender I probably would have been impaled on the stick, luckily, my father was a smooth operator, never had one collision in his entire life.

Likewise, I've never heard the "That's not gun control or talking the effectiveness of regulation" defense used by a guy who is discussing automobiles in a gun control thread.

It's illegal to not wear a seatbelt, yet when someone dies because they don't wear their seatbelt, do we then make it so the cars won't start without someone clicking the seatbelt shut?

Then what happens if someone does that, then just latches it to the seat?

Do we make it so that it won't start unless a part of the seatbelt is extended? Or weight restrictions have to be met? Or both?

See what we are doing here? The more restrictions, the less freedom... the more restrictions the more money it's going to cost to enforce them, and in turn, the cost of cars become outrageous.

There is going to be a point of time where we say "Fuck it, let Darwinism take affect" and we should to... we have become a country of babies because we are afraid to get hurt this day and age. We either learn from our mistakes or not...
You might want more dangerous cars; sort of an own goal in the fight against tyranny, but cool.

Still, you can't really accuse people of being hypocrites for not worrying about car and highway safety when they worry about gun safety.
I want a car I can fix myself!
That car has never existed for you.

Oh it did, then the auto and insurance companies got together and said "Hey how can we make money?"

OP was about cars n' guns. Seemed like fair game.

The automobile industry is a perfect example of how regulations and profit incentives can reduce fatalities.

Bill o' Rights is a winner in gun control debates.

Claiming nothing can be done, so why bother, or changing the subject to other causes of death (especially cars) ain't .
