But they have something like a hundred diesel electric SSK's, which are shorter ranged, but much quieter.
Japan and Korea are building up a large force of state o' the art SSK's.
India is rapidly fielding nuclear powered SSBN/SSN's as well as new SSK's
Vietnam has Russian made SSK's
You don't really know how the submarine forces would perform until the shooting starts.
Submarines are dangerous in of themselves, so everybody can sink everybody.
Would come down to a mixture of who has the best tech and crews.
The Chinese are at an advantage if they are defensive near to their shore.
The further the Chinese try to project power the more perilous it becomes for them.
The Japanese and Koreans have NATO level of technology. Very quiet. Deep diving and best SONAR.
The Russian and Chinese made subs are not as quiet, but more plentiful, quantity having a quality of its own.
