Marine.
This time you caught me when I wasn't sipping my Coke Zero, so it didn't shoot out my nose when you called a Marine a soldier.
Damn, I was trying for that. I know the difference, I just wanted to see your reaction
Well, you are talking to an Air Force guy. We actively try not to miss the opportunity to call them soldiers.

The beatings would not be punished. The details the NCOs would bring forth from their imaginations would be off-the-charts fucking horrible.

My Papa was Army Air Core, so I know what you mean. He had a few choice words for them... lol.

Dude, that's just the kind of hazing that happens to you when you transfer out of your unit. That's how we showed love. The shit we would do to somebody who was wearing a Che t-shirt under their uniform (which violates regulations, by the way) would be dire.

Yes they would.
Good Times.
Getting a promotion also meant it was free range for your peers to fuck with you. Walk the Gauntlet was about the best.

"Hoss, it looks like a family of skunks made a home in some port-a-potty out past Lola and died in there. You got volunteered to disinfect the thing. Be careful it doesn't fall over while you are in there, because somebody mentioned it was a little unstable.."

Running the gauntlet to have your stripes pounded into your collar by the platoon, every new rank, no backing.
That was the Army I joined.
Guess I probably got the tail end of the real Army.

Pfft, we got that from Boyscouts when I was growing up... for me though I could get away with it, soap would have been replaced with grenades as a start.

Yeah, me too.
Before I got out in 2013 I could no longer authorize that to happen officially. But NCO's were still doing it off the books and the Newly Promoted asked for the honor of Walking the Gauntlet.
