It's amazing to sea the power of this thing. The ability to move an Ocean. This video is from the Bahamas.

Because they were supposed to prevent that sort of thing, they're getting punished for letting it happen.
The southern US is getting smited real hard this hurricane season, two major hurricanes that made landfall, after a drought of 12 years without one, and two particularly nasty major hurricanes at that. God must be cheesed.
The southern US hasn't had a major storm hit for a good long time. People are crying over loosing their doublewides.

And I have family down there, so don't say I don't know what I'm talking about.

The point is that if you know you like in a hurricane zone, prepare for a fucking hurricane. In Mass we live in a freeze your testicles off in winter zone. If you are to prepared know what we do?

We buy salt and snow blowers to dig ourselves out, then we go to Dunkin' to get an ice coffee and laugh at Mother Nature because she's our bitch. We loose power, we kick on our generators... we loose shingles from our roof we nail them back on.

We get a hurricane out here we board up and flip it the bird.

The point is, you don't go into a region or weather zone without being prepared. If you buy a doublewide, make sure it's going to survive a hurricane. If it can't, buy something that will and store your important things down there.

I really don't know why it's so hard to prep for things like that. It's not like there isn't something out there that tells you the history of a region.

Irma is small, people keep forgetting about the big ones.

Here's an interesting video on the sizes of various hurricanes.

If we want to go to the Solar System, yeah... but I'm talking on earth. And as far as I know, the largest is Tip... and it wasn't a hurricane but a Typhoon, which means it was in the Pacific if I remember correctly?

Most powerful is a mix between Wilma and Labor Day... but again it depends on the definition of storms I guess and placements?

It's not the size, it's how you use it.

:snicker:

On a more serious note, shit's getting real in the Caribbean:

Desperation Mounts in Caribbean Islands: ‘All the Food Is Gone’
In the few, long days since Irma pummeled the northeast Caribbean, killing more than two dozen people and leveling 90 percent of the buildings on some islands, the social fabric has begun to fray in some of the hardest-hit communities.

Residents of St. Martin, and elsewhere in the region, spoke about a general disintegration of law and order as survivors struggled in the face of severe food and water shortages, and the absence of electricity and phone service.

As reports of increasing desperation continued to emerge from the region over the weekend, governments in Britain, France and the Netherlands, which oversee territories in the region, stepped up their response. They defended themselves against criticism that their reaction had been too slow, and insufficient. Both the French and Dutch governments said they were sending in extra troops to restore order, along with the aid that was being airlifted into the region.
...and no, I'm not translating this into pidgin.

It sounds like Richard Branson is the one trying to get food into British Virgin Islands.

Those people should revolt after this.

It's nuts.

Richard Branson Wants ‘Marshall Plan’ for Post-Irma Caribbean
On St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands, FEMA and the U.S. military were helping rescue people blocked in their homes by debris after local residents cleared the roads of fallen trees, according to Conn Davis, a resident who has helped organize such efforts. Even with the extra troops, he said crime has soared since the storm.

"In my home at night, we are locked in like a bunker," Davis, a developer who was born on the island, told NBC News. "Last night I had people in my garage with flashlights looking around. I’m armed 24/7 with an assault weapon and handgun."

In Anguilla, a British overseas territory, residents feared that clean water and food would soon start to run short, while most of the island remained without power.
