For those who are interested, here's a book that is right down Central on this issue.

Before the totally looney-tune proggos took over a century ago, freedom of contract (hell, just plain old "freedom") was still a thing.

Rehabilitating Lochner: Defending Individual Rights against Progressive Reform
In this timely reevaluation of an infamous Supreme Court decision, David E. Bernstein provides a compelling survey of the history and background of Lochner v. New York. This 1905 decision invalidated state laws limiting work hours and became the leading case contending that novel economic regulations were unconstitutional. Sure to be controversial, Rehabilitating Lochner argues that the decision was well grounded in precedent—and that modern constitutional jurisprudence owes at least as much to the limited-government ideas of Lochner proponents as to the more expansive vision of its Progressive opponents.

Tracing the influence of this decision through subsequent battles over segregation laws, sex discrimination, civil liberties, and more, Rehabilitating Lochner argues not only that the court acted reasonably in Lochner, but that Lochner and like-minded cases have been widely misunderstood and unfairly maligned ever since.

Help us Mr. Justice Repo Man, you're our only hope!

Every time you think King County has hit “Apex Crazy”, they kick it up a notch.

As a simple matter of a priori reasoning, this law is absolutely guaranteed to screw the very group of people it is (facially) designed to protect.

Prohibiting a private contractor from considering attributes of individuals forces the consideration of applicants as members of large, general risk pools.

Stupid fucking state; dumb as a sack of hammers.

Evolution seems to work in political ideologies as well.

All landlords will switch to charging maximum down payments, first and last month rent, maximum deposits, etc, etc, because they have to assume that their tenant will be a maximum risk.

All good renters, whose past renting history, payment history, and letters of recommendation should aid them in finding housing - fuck you guys. We need Thought Police Seattle to ensure that Rasheed Muhammad isn’t denied housing based on his name, so merit has no place in this equation. First come first serve. Boo yah.

Note: Ever notice that the left abhors a meritocracy, and every major policy or group they support is anti-meritocracy by default? Think about it - Public Jobs, labor unions, race quotas, minimum wage, tenure - always, always, always uses some system that discards the merit or accomplishments of individuals in favor of tilting the tables towards the “right” people.

This is the problem with salaried vs hourly employees
No man's life, liberty, or property are safe while the legislature is in session

It's called the Faultocracy.

The left wants the opposite of a meritocracy. It literally fosters failure at every level.

That's not an answer.
Nothing to stop you checking if you want to but you can't be made to work after hours. Why would you have a problem with that.
Am I missing something?

You are missing the point of a salary. Professionals do not work like you do. There is no clock.
The wording seemed to be "outside your hours of work"
If your job has no set hours then how does this affect you?
If however your hours of work are 9-5
but you are expected to spend 2 hours a night working after you get home and this wasn't in your contract of employment then this law would protect you.
For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.
