Publisher of Nordfront found guilty - "you cant say Hitler was a great guy"

Previous publisher of neo-nazi website Nordfront [Website of the Nordic Resistance Movement], Emanuel Lärkestål, is found guilty of 61 cases of hate speech.

His sentence is probation and fine of 4000 SEK in the biggest press freedom case ever in Sweden.

Lärkestål is found guilty of 61 out of the 106 charges. Most charges were related to the website's articles about posters with pictures of Adolf Hitler. Lärkestål denies all charges.

Lärkeståls sentence corresponds to a five month jail sentence according to Judge Björn Lindén. The probation serves as a warning.

Lindén says that freedom of expression is important in a democracy, and it comes with its own duties and responsibilities.

"In some publications, such as historical magazines, it may be motivated to publish pictures of Hitler in an objective fashion. But you are not allowed to publish swastikas as a tribute, or write that Hitler was a great guy. You simply have to avoid any statement that offends others."
