There's the obvious fact is that in this extremely backstabbing and chaotic White House, what this all comes to is a competition about Kelly's place as the "handler" of the Fox & Friends watching grandpa. Then there's ring of people outside the WH that have influence over Trump and want more of it, people like Rupert Murdoch the owner of Fox or people like Erik Prince, who pitched the whacky idea of privitizing for himself the war in Afghanistan. Just to give some examples. For them people like Kelly are a problem as he isn't their puppet, but from the armed forces obviously just trying to manage the chaotic administration, and won't go along the most ludicrous things they want. I would put into this category also Rex Tillerson, who obviously was picked up as thought to be "pro-Russia", but obviously is a person that understands his role of being a representative of the US, not his former Company.

I wonder why this defence of the "grownups" of the White House? Because Kelly is in the same ring as McMaster (and Mattis).
