Attacking the FOB results in what tho? I mean, you get some shots in, then you're killed, it's a suicide mission, and it doesn't move the needle, the Americans will withdraw simply by driving into the roadside bombs, there's no point in attacking the FOB, just lie in wait for them to inevitably drive around on the supply routes, plant bombs on all those routes, done and done, no FOB attack required.

I don't know. My guess would be some Iranian linked group. There was never any heat where we were before we got there because the goal was to get the weapons into Baghdad, and not attract attention along the way. Once we got there and started intercepting the weapons coming across the border, they started hitting us. The Brits came in in 2003, built some forts, and left. No one made any real attempt to secure the border before we got there.

That's what I was wondering, you said you were near the Iranian border, so seems unlikely those rockets came all the way from the Anbar to Maysan.

I only know one troop who got hit with an actual suicide attack, said it wasn't even a Talib, it was this old man, they had been working with him for months, they don't know why he did it, either the Taliban had some leverage on him, or he just got mad about something, but he wasn't actually a combatant, he was just some local guy who went green on blue one day.

It's like Osama Bin Laden, the guy wasn't suicidal, he hid out from the Americans for years, watching the war on TV, when DEVRGU came for him, he didn't exactly go out in a blaze of glory, just sat there and did nothing, just like most non combatants would do.
