Boba Fett wasn't a typical Star Wars villain. He was a mercenary BUT he was also competent as well. Here look, you can tell that he heard Luke taking his blaster out when his head turns. Then later Fett comes back and shots up Luke:

Except Lucas blew it with Fett as well, builds him up as this ultimate bad ass, then chucks him into the sarlacc pit like he's a bumbling clown character.

Pretty much as the movies were concern he was a villain. Which is kind of a shame since he was probably the best one (aside from Vader). Once the Prequels came out they kind of both destroyed Fett and Vader's characters to a degree. I do think that Fett can come back but not really Vader after learning about Anakin Skywalker.

Uh.. no..

The original films portrayed him as neutral. He's not good or bad. He's just doing what he has to do to get paid. He talks shit to Vader and lives too.

Yeah, but there were numerous people who have read in the EU and also the Disney canon books that Fett did in fact survived the Sarlacc Pit. Also, Lucas did want to get rid of him because there were (originally) 12 films planned with him and he quickly lost interest in Star Wars and condensed everything down to RotJ.

But the film takes the idea of once you side with the Empire, then you are the bad guy.

The film also takes the idea that the good guys are a bunch of fanatical space terrorists who join forces with little cannibal monsters to overthrow the galactic stability. It's literally as if ISIS was able to overthrow the world order and plunge the world into chaos.

Boba Fett was no dummy. He was just trying to navigate his way through the collapse, helping the side of order while it lasted, and definitely not siding with Space ISIS.

The Mandalorians are the ultimate SW bad asses, the warrior society which resists the encroachment by the Republic to the hilt, warring with the Jedi as their nemesis, then the Jedi nuke their homeworld into a wasteland and they are scattered to the four corners of the galaxy, surviving and making their way as mercenaries and bounty hunters.

The Madalorians are the Anti-Jedi's, they even had their own lightsabers called darksabers, booyah.

Boba Fett was an instant success after Empire Strikes Back. Was one of my favorite Kenner Action Figures.
