There's probably nowhere to go with technology at this point, it's all off the shelf these days, but ILM was more than just tech, they had style, they invented a new look, a new sound, a new feel, and it did have soul, back in 1977. It's just stale now, they're coasting along on nostalgia, they're dining out on a fan base which is aging, at some point, somebody has to break out, if they want a cash cow of their very own.heydaralon wrote: By the time the prequels xame out, CGI was old news, and they almost felt drowned out in a sea of scifi movies. They didnt have the soul for lack of a better word, that the old ones had. Combined with Lucas’ large creative control in the writing, you had this absurd hammy dialogue which was unbearable. Hayden Christianson is not a bad actor, bit holy shit his lines in those movie are cringeworthy.
Star Wars now, is like where the flying saucers of the 1950's was, for us as kids in the 70's. We still liked flying saucers n' shit, we watched a lot of movies from the 50's back then, that is, until we saw Star Wars, and at that point, flying saucers n' shit, died an instant death.
