I get that way with two to three hours of sleep.

I get 8 hours, I feel like I overslept.

Of course you feel like you've overslept.

Your body isn't used to getting sleep.

As soon as it gets the idea it might get enough sleep it becomes aware of how much sleep it still needs.

If you've been sleeping 4-5 hours for years, you're not going to catch up in one night.

You'll probably be groggy for months until you finally start paying back your sleep debt.

That all being said, it's a good idea to turn this around eventually...

Proper sleep including REM sleep, which occurs mostly in the last parts of a full night sleep is where we clean house in the central nervous system.
