Youngest PM in Europan history. From the conservative ÖVP party. Another defeat for European Social Democrats.
The “right wing populists” FPÖ did well and might end up in coalition government. They are one of the most nazi smelling parties in Europe. Last time ÖVP and FPÖ ruled together in 2000 there were lots of protests around Europe. It ended in a meltdown between the two parties. The are pretty similar which can actually be a problem when having a coalition.

FPÖ might seem like a bad fit with ÖVP when it comes to EU policy, with the former being anti-EU and the other pro-EU. Of course, that's also the case for Denmark where the second largest party and main coalition partner of the Liberal-Conservative government is the national-conservative/populist DPP. So, they'll probably make it work in Austria, too. Funny thing about populists getting political power... they'll suddenly stop being all that populist.

Based on what I've seen this sounds like more populist right wing back lash against immigration policy. Just my .02
