Conservatives have called me evil to my face.
What prompted them to call you evil? I don't mean it in a "you deserved it" way, but I doubt someone just saw you walking down the street and immediately called you evil. Plus, you know they were conservative, so there had to be some discussion prior to that.
Multiple times, by different people.
Was working as a delivery driver and boss was an evangelical christian. I'm always up for an argument if one presents itself, but he eventually gets it out of me that I'm an atheist. It's been a long while but from what I remember, from then on he tried to convert me, kept telling me that I have no morals because I believed in nothing. What I remember most was, well I always showed up for work early, bout an hour. The place usually opened up at 2pm, and I'm sitting there in my car taking a nap and I hear a tap on my window. It's my boss. I check the time, it's about 30 minutes til, and he asks me if I want to start early.
I'm like sure, come inside and nothing is started up so I start to get things going, and he tells me to stop working for a sec. He starts in on his story about how he used to be lost and he didn't have the best childhood and his father was abusive. He said there was a point in his life where he was standing outside of his father's home with a loaded gun, thinking about going in and killing "the bastard" but he started dating his now wife, and she told him about Jesus. That's what stopped him from killing his asshole father, and with her help he joined the Navy and started his own business. He says he is only telling me this because he's trying to help me out to try to save me from the evils of atheism. I thanked him for sharing his story and worked out my shift.
Didn't last much longer, he continued to get increasingly pushy about his beliefs, then I gave my two weeks about a week after that.
Another time happened when I was invited by a friend of my sister in-law's to a bonfire. I didn't mind the friend, I'd see her at family get togethers sometimes and she's a delightful person. I'd never met her husband though. I'm sitting there enjoying some smores he comes and sits by me. He says "so, I heard you're an atheist." Around where I'm from you expect everyone to be conservative, because if you're liberal around there you tend to hide it. Someone comes up to you and says that you're like "ah shit, here we go."
I forget exactly but he was trying to tell me that the only reason I didn't kill everyone there was "because there was nothing in it for me."
That's what he thought, that if there was something in it for me, I wouldn't hesitate to kill everyone there.
