HAL wasn't crazy, the politicians ordered him to lie, so he had a conflict, he wasn't killing for nothing, he was trying to save the mission as it had been articulated to him in a classified secret briefing.

I have the audiobook of that. Haven't listened to it though. I've read a couple of sections of Global Catastrophic Risks after Dan mentioned it in a CS awhile back, but to be honest I thought it was pretty dry, and much of it went over my head. Are you big on Transhumanism dude? To me, that seems almost antithetical to much of what you believe. Personally, I'm leery of any of those Bostrom types.
