Well, I just see it as the price we Canadian taxpayers will have to pay, for just looking the other way while our government played along with the American GWOT down in Guantanamo Bay, if CSIS goes down there and interrogates him, on the back of a fundmentally unlawful American detention regime, that's on us, we can't blame the Americans if we are allowing our people to play along when we well know that the entire situation was prohibited under national and international law and the laws of armed conflict.

I mean, you can either be under arrest with civil due process, or you can be de facto EPW under intenational law, but you can't be both and neither at the same time, Catch-22 with no standing nor priviledges whatsoever, that's entirely prohibited, a war crime in fact, so on this file, the Canadian government is as dirty as the day is long, and they know it, which is why they are paying hush money to just make it go away.
If Canadians actually insisted that the law be enforced here, there's scores if not hundreds of Canadian officials who could rightly be in the dock looking at serious jail time, so as far as the govenment is concerned, this needs to go away and go away fast, and never that ball of yarn be allowed to unravel. You're telfon, until you're not, never can tell if a judge might just decide to issue a warrant, and where it can go from there, they don't want to find out.
With what you could be charged with for being complicit in a war crime, it's all major indictables liable for 14 to 20 years in the penitentiary, they do not want any of this getting near a judge, because once it goes there, they no longer have control over it. Not that I think anybody would actually end up doing that sort of time, but it's not the sort of can of worms anybody would want to even see invoked at all, not even in the press, and the press is sort of dancing around the edges of it already. It would be a very long way from A to B, but B being so ultimately precarious, they wouldn't even want the ball to start inching in that direction never mind start to roll.
With Kadr signing off on the settlement, they're still not 100% in the clear, would just take one judge to refuse to play along, and the shit could hit the fan, but I'm sure the settlement at least comes with a caveat, that Kadr personally not pursue the matter further in the courts, in return for the 10 million bucks.
Even today, Opposition members and even members of the Liberal party are coming out and saying "why was this settlement paid before the process was allowed to go forward in the courts?!" Answer; see above. So far the MSM is treating it as a political liability, while either conveniently ignoring and/or just missing the fact that a war crime was apparently commited, there is criminal liability for that, and Canadian officials having got themselves wrapped up in it, kowtowing to the Americans basically, would be compilicit by default, but if it stops there, just political liability, no warrants, no perp walks, then they're laughing, but they have to make sure it stops there, and fast.

What's funny is how Huffington Post Canada has done a one eighty on this since the Liberals replaced the Conservatves in power, when the Conservatives were in power, Huffington Post was all "he's a child soldier! He's the victim here!", but now that it's Justin Trudeau with this hot potato instead of Stephen Harper, they have gone completely the opposite and are rallying around the authorities with "Kadr is a terrorist! He's deserves no apology!" lol.

I'm no fan of Kadr by the way, I don't give a shit if the government apologizes to him, that's meaningless fluff, but the problem simply arises with; convicted in a pretty obvious show trial by a kangaroo court, having been deep sixed into an extrajudicial black hole, under a regime which meets the threshold of torture under the letter of national and international law and the laws of armed conflict, and then the Government of Canada went and touched it with their own hands, so, they made their own bed here, there's nothing I can do to absolve them for so egregiously breaching their own statutes which they claim to hold so dear.
I'm on the hook for my share of the ten million bucks I guess, but I already consider the Canadian taxation regime to be de facto criminal theft by the state, so what else is new?

Africans export themselves to Canada,
The police were searching Thursday for six African teenagers who were reported missing from an international robotics competition in Washington. Two of them were said to have been seen crossing into Canada, law enforcement officials said.
Police officials here confirmed that two members of the robotics team from Burundi, Don Ingabire, 16, and Audrey Mwamikazi, 17, were seen entering Canada, but their destination and current location remained unknown.
It was unclear where the remaining team members were. They were identified as Aristide Irambona, 18; Nice Munezero, 17; Kevin Sabumukiza, 17; and Richard Irakoze, 18.
The six teenagers were last seen in Washington on Tuesday night near the Daughters of the American Revolution Constitution Hall, where the robotics competition took place. The team’s mentor, Canesius Bindaba, reported their disappearance after he returned to the dormitories where they were staying, assuming the teenagers had taken a different bus shuttle after the closing ceremony.

two and a half minutes into this interview and my bullshit meter is already going through the ceiling. when asked about specific positive examples of views and opinions shared by women in his diversity cabinet, (starts at 2:00) i'm sure he can point to something, he brings up some vague horseshit about men working on pipelines in rural towns and the societal effects of that. who, on women? on the local burger joint?
naturally the CNN presstitute accepts his shit answer and instead throws him a softball: are you a feminist
