Re: Alternative Facts
Bjorn.... that may be the thinking but no matter how many times he says his inauguration was the biggest ever, nobody will believe it. His strongest supporters know it's a lie . Time to get off that

No he's pointing out that media are liars and that is obviously to his advantage.Kath wrote:All trump is doing is pointing out how shallow and pretty his ego is. So.... big win I guess.

Re: Alternative Facts
They did. Spicer said he was talking about people watching the inauguration on tv and online, not attendance. He backpeddled nicely already, and lulled the media into an obvious trap. If the media now tries to continue to talk about crowd size like it's an important issue, it will only further discredit them and allow Trump to keep counter-punching them for doing so. Sean Spicer played the media for chumps.Kath wrote:Bjorn.... that may be the thinking but no matter how many times he says his inauguration was the biggest ever, nobody will believe it. Re: Alternative Facts
This fucking bizaro world where the government is expected to tell the truth and the media is allowed to lie.
No, the way I remember it is that you want your government to tell the truth, but you don't bet on it, because you're not a two year old, and you've figured out that people in government lie like hell. It's actually the media that you hold to that standard, and who you get upset with when you catch them in a lie.

Re: Alternative Facts
Yeah but you shouldn't bet on the media upholding that standard either, you aren't a two year old after all. Both sides lie a good chunk of the time, because "Why tell the truth when a good lie will do?" That's both sides MO and the reason it is their MO, is because it's an effective way to operate on political terrain.Okeefenokee wrote:This fucking bizaro world where the government is expected to tell the truth and the media is allowed to lie.

Re: Alternative Facts
I don't really have an opinion on the crowd size thing, specifically. There's for a long time in US, but increasingly in international politics been a sense that leaders must portray a degree of... flawlessness, I guess would be the best word. That a politician never admit mistakes. With Trump, it's just not a result of political influence, that adherence to broadcasting himself as flawless and never admitting fault is just his personality. A personality that fits well into the 21st cent. politician who "needs" to look perfect and to hell with the facts.Kath wrote:Bjorn.... that may be the thinking but no matter how many times he says his inauguration was the biggest ever, nobody will believe it. Facts don't matter to those who assume that acknowledging a given set of facts equals taking a side in some imaginary conflict. As a hypothetical: If the acknowledging that polluted water can cause harm to farming soil has become associated with leftists by a group of right-wingers, then right-wingers can't believe that polluted water can cause harm to farming soil. Because that would mean, in their and their peers eyes, that they've now "taken the side" of the left-wingers. And anybody can fill in their own examples of why leftists wouldn't acknowledge facts that they see as "right-wing", for the same reasons.
Fame is not flattery. Respect is not agreement.

Except that was another lie. it's somewhere in this thread. They've already compared Obama's viewership to Trump's, and Obama 1st event is still bigger. I think they also pointed out that Reagan's was even larger than Obama's. Trump's total reach was 5th overall. Reagan 1st, Obama 2nd... etc.

Except that doesn't count youtube, facebook and other online media streaming options. Nielsen ratings aren't the whole picture.Kath wrote:Except that was another lie. it's somewhere in this thread. The article included all ways of viewing the inauguration and Trump still came out behind. Get over it, Capps.StCapps wrote:Except that doesn't count youtube, facebook and other online media streaming options.
