Get a large tame cat breed like a Maine Coon. You have a dog, right? If you give a dog a kitten they will bond really great. Doesn't work the other way around.

I have a Maine Coon. Strangest cat I've ever seen, acts more like a dog than a cat. Helluva mouser, death on rabbits too.

My old neighbor had two Maine Coons. Coolest cat/dogs I have ever been around. They were awesome.

There are three breeds like that. Maine Coon, Norwegian Forest Cat and Siberian. They are all large and long hair. MC is largest. A lot like dogs.
Siberians have the added advantage of being hypoallergenic.

We have one of those fountains with running water for our dog and cats. Our Siberian cat loves to put his head under the nozzle when he drinks.
