Re: Civil War Doomsday Clock
Abortion is suddenly a popular issue in the media again as a result of recent state laws in Alabama, Georgia and Missouri making abortion more restrictive. Naturally the media headlines reflect the views of those on the left of the spectrum. Has-been celebrities are calling for boycotts of the states. Panic and accusations of oppression run rampant.
This got me to realize that I wasn't even sure how liberal our abortion laws were compared to the rest of the world. Was limiting it to 8 weeks a third world view that only shithole countries still had?
This study is a great reference that compares our abortion laws to those of other countries with getting too long or convoluted.

Interesting information. The lefties would have you believe that an 8 week limit is stone age material reserved for only the most sadistic countries. Somehow women's rights means allowing an abortion up to birth and anything less is oppression from the middle ages. Yet those are the only views wee ever hear from. Never do we hear from media about the facts like these. This report finds that the United States is one of only seven countries in the world that permit elective abortion past 20 weeks. This finding suggests that current proposals in the United States to restrict elective abortions past 20 weeks would move the United States from the fringe, ultra-permissive end of the spectrum to a position closer to international norms.
More than 75% of the countries permitting abortion without restriction as to reason do not permit elective abortions past 12 weeks gestation.ixx
Only 12% (7 out of 59) of the countries permitting abortion without restriction as to reason permit elective abortion past 20 weeks gestation.
The U.S. is among these 7 countries that permit elective abortion past 20 weeks.xi This is true whether 20 weeks is measured from the last menstrual period (gestational age), conception, or implantation. No matter how duration of pregnancy is measured, whether by gestational age or conception or fertilization, or implantation, all countries in this category pass the 20-week threshold. These countries/territories are:
Canada (no restriction in law)xii
China (no restriction in law)xiii
Netherlands (24 weeks)
North Korea (no restriction in law)
Singapore (24 weeks)
United States (viability)9
Vietnam (no restriction in law)xiv
The United States is within the top 4% of most permissive abortion policies in the world (7 out of 198) when analyzing restrictions on elective abortion based on duration of pregnancy.

I have no problem with an 8 week limit. Just not prohibition.

Women pretty much know after they miss their first period. This just means they have to have the agency to get a generic pregnancy test instead of waiting to miss two and then panicking. Kids are still fucked and have to face the music with their parents as should always be the case.

As a person who does not support abortion, 8 weeks is tight.
There are women who miss periods, which means there are women who wouldn't do anything until they miss 2.
Or miss a period and then it takes 4 weeks to get into a doctor.
Not saying its ok, but an abortion at 9 weeks is common I am sure.
Miscarriages between 8 and 12 weeks are quite common.

An 8 week limit basically ends abortion. Most women have no idea in that time frame.
