Re: North Korea News
North Korea’s embarrassing missile launch failure may have been caused by US cyber attack
Sir Malcolm Rifkind claims American intelligence has used cyber warfare to successfully foil missile tests before and that there is a “strong belief” that President Trump’s administration was behind North Korea’s latest failed launch.
Speaking with the BBC, he said: “It could have failed because the system is not competent enough to make it work, but there is a very strong belief that the US through cyber methods has been successful on several occasions in interrupting these sorts of tests and making them fail.”
But Sir Malcolm, who served as foreign secretary from 1995 to 1997 in John Major’s government, did warn that despite the missile flop, North Korea remains a serious nuclear threat.
He said: “But don’t get too excited by that, they’ve also had quite a lot of successful tests.
“They are an advanced country when it comes to their nuclear weapons programme. That still remains a fact – a hard fact.”

LOL Any port in a storm, I guess...
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/04 ... ar-korean/North Korea's KCNA news agency on Monday published a letter from the country’s leader, Kim Jong-un to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, marking the 70th anniversary of Syria’s independence.
"I express again a strong support and alliance to the Syrian government and its people for its work of justice, condemning the United States’ recent violent invasive act against your country," said Mr Kim.

Re: North Korea News
Wish I could find the article I was reading last week. The writer proposed a theory I hadn't considered involving Trump flipping the script on North Korea. The basic idea was he may be preparing to reverse the roles of the two nations. Instead of North Korea saber rattling and demanding more free stuff every couple of years, the carrier group becomes our saber to rattle when we want concessions from North Korea. Along the lines of "If you want one less battleship parked right off your shore you better give us X".
I don't lend it much credence, but it was a theory I hadn't heard of before. Unfortunately, high pressure bargaining requires dealing with a rational actor who has the "flexibility" to cut deals with you. I'm not sure the Kim Jong Un has either. You can't shred your military officers with AA guns and feed your uncle to dogs, then turn around and start caving in to naval threats. There are already too many knives out for you among your own people to look weak.

Know who is a "rational actor who has the 'flexibility' to cut deals with you?" Ole Patty knows.

How much indeed.Earlier, after discovering “great chemistry” with Chinese President Xi Jinping over “the most beautiful piece of chocolate cake” at Mar-a-Lago, Trump had confided, “I explained … that a trade deal with the U.S. will be far better for them if they solve the North Korean problem!”
“America First” thus takes a back seat to big-power diplomacy with Beijing. One wonders: How much will Xi end up bilking us for his squeezing of Kim Jong Un?

He may want to check with the Trump University attendees before plunking down his deposit on Kim Jong Un.
