Would he, though?

If republicans just adopted Medicare-for-all, they'd clean up in the elections.

Which is why the Democrats would filibuster it. Wouldn't that be ironic, the Democrats filibustering universal health care in order to prevent Republicans from getting the credit for it.

They'd still lose and they'd probably lose a sizable portion of their electorate in the process.

Kill the filibuster sounds good too me. That's another big win on top of a real health care bill.

The GOP have the ability to absolutely crush the democratic party with this, and in the process showing how utterly contemptible the old GOPe truly is.

Moving the uninsured to Medicare is not some huge deal that should be opposed.

Kath claims to love talking about policy but when policy is discussed in depth on this forum, she is nowhere to be seen and her only comments are about things she claims not to care about. She isn't fooling anybody.

Yes, but there will be ideologues screaming "Communism!" It's like the rising and setting of the Sun. I think that was a (small) reason why the Democrats did not do something like this when they had the chance.
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.

She just drops in from time to time to see if Boe had anything nice to say about her. She was crushed when he told her to take a hike. It was actually amusing to watch her puppy dog up to him for a while until he lost all interest.

Party loyalty and political gain might whip enough of them into line though, it might be a "only Nixon can go to China" kind of thing. It would be quite the feat, but it might not be impossible, though I'm not sure Trump has properly "paced" the freedom caucus types enough to "lead" them to supporting universal health care and not immediately decrying it as "Communism!". If Trump could get Rand Paul and Ted Cruz on board with it and combine that with the nuclear option, then the GOP could theoretically get it done, though it's obviously a longshot.

The Democrats voting against Universal Health Care though, that would just be too damn funny, and if Trump and the GOP seizes the opportunity then they can force them into doing just that.

Crushing the democratic party might be more enticing to them.
