In the end, like I say, I would hope that somebody would explain to Trump that this would be caving into the North Koreans and America is going to get played, so at some point between now and the time when the meeting was supposed to go down, the President will come to his senses and realize that it's a suckers play, and then they will come up with some rubric to call it off.

SOP. When under fire domestically, try to distract with FoPo canard. Normally a President would never go so far as to cave into a demand from Pyongyang to effect such a canard, but Trump is more under fire than a normal President, plus he has no clue what he's doing.

Mind you, he talks a lot of shit and then walks it back after, so there's still plenty of wriggle room for him to do so here, the adults in the room have already said the timeline for the talks is not set, so that still gives them plenty of time to walk Trump back from the brink before he screws the pooch.

Sounds like it is South Korea's play. Ostensibly, our continued conflict is on behalf of our allies, so what is the big deal?

It isn't like talking with Kim is going to lead to international communism steam rolling the region. South Korea is making cash, living well, and are probably tired of having a gun pointed at their fucking heads, so if they want talk, let's talk. The more engagement with the South the North has, the more terrible an shitty the North will seem, and the harder it will be for them to keep up the constant kayfabe, and if Kim getting his photo op is part of that process, oh well.

Worst case scenario is we are in the exact same place we are now, best case scenario is a foot in the door for diplomacy.

Certainly would be amusing to see a pathologically conceited America prostrate itself mindlessly before the North Korean tin pots, it is simply my duty as a stalwart ally to warn against such capitulation to nuclear blackmail, with all the unintended consequences which will be entailed, regardless of the inclination of lefties and lolbergs to drag America into the mire of pointless negotiation for its own sake and associated loss of face and strategic leverage.
