For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.

Nathan MacKinnon was on an MVP pace with 19:18, Matthews getting 18:26 is plenty right now, and if you're going to throw the kitchen sink at him, wait until the playoffs when you're backs against the wall.StCapps wrote:GIve good players more ice time and it gets easier to be consistent, pro tip. A small tweak upward will do them good, don't be silly, the play them less strategy isn't improving consistency, time to switch up.Smitty-48 wrote:They haven't earned more icetime, they're not complete, not even Matthews, their effort level fluctuates in game and game to game, they're not consistent, they're not reliable in their own end, they are second year players with a lot of talent, but they ain't big dogs in the show yet, and there's no reason to hand them more icetime until are.StCapps wrote:Giving Marner and Nylander around a minute more, and giving Matthews an extra thirty seconds, on average per night, that is rushing them?
Marner and Nylander are a couple tiers below, they haven't done anything to earn more icetime, their effort levels are nowhere near warranting more icetime, they still float around like a couple juniors most nights.

That's why I recommend 19:00 mins, it seems to be the sweet spot for franchise players who score around a point per game. If you don't give him a challenge, he'll improve slower, Matthews will rise to challenge, if Babcock ever listens to me, you'll see. If he ain't getting 19:00 in the playoffs, Babcock might have gone insane or something.Smitty-48 wrote:Nathan MacKinnon was on an MVP pace with 19:18, Matthews getting 18:26 is plenty right now, and if you're going to throw the kitchen sink at him, wait until the playoffs when you're backs against the wall.

There's no pressure to put more on Matthews right now, it's a long season, when the chips are down and backs are against the wall, Matthews will get the ball, I have no complaints about how Babcock is running Matthews, but collectively, this team doesn't have the grind on both sides of the puck to get past Boston nor Tampa Bay right now, so stick to the process, and keep doling out the icetime based on who is getting into the grind and who isn't, because scoring is not the problem, but pretty much everything else is a clown show whenever a heavy team puts the screws to them.StCapps wrote:That's why I recommend 19:00 mins, it seems to be the sweet spot for franchise players who score around a point per game.Smitty-48 wrote:Nathan MacKinnon was on an MVP pace with 19:18, Matthews getting 18:26 is plenty right now, and if you're going to throw the kitchen sink at him, wait until the playoffs when you're backs against the wall.

Winter is more manageable, I love all the speed skating, bobsled, luge, downhill skiing, snowboard cross, basically anything that isn't judged. Even the Spengler hockey, but it is not the same.

No it isn't. The amateur athlete is such a Victorian notion. The Olympics are faster, higher, stronger, not "show me your pay stubs." It should be about the best in world competing against the best in the world, not some amateur showcase. It was never really that in the first place.Fife wrote:Professional sports are fundamentally incompatible with the Olympics.
The NBA gets a free ride, because the Olympics big-wigs magically made basketball a "summer" sport.
The whole idea of having paid athletes in the modern Olympics is a tub of shitte.

I don't feel that way universally. In the summer games, gymnastics and diving are legit sports. I guess I have to give a shout out to ski jumping, I mean jumping off at speed and heights that could kill a dude with just a pair of skis is pretty badass.Montegriffo wrote:100% agree. At least ski jumping contains an element of how far you jump, it can be measured objectively, I don't see why any importance is based on how stylishly you do it. It's not like you get extra points for style when you throw a javelin.clubgop wrote:I don't feel that way universally. In the summer games, gymnastics and diving are legit sports.
