The federal prison population is not representative of incarcerated populations on the state and local level, so excluding them from the report means that it sheds little light on nationwide incarcerations by nativity, legal status, or type of crime. On the last point, it is shocking how unrepresentative federal prison is regarding the types of crimes its inmates are convicted of. In 2016, 67,742 people were sentenced to federal prison. Almost 30 percent of them were for immigration offenses. Those immigration convictions comprised 100 percent of the convictions for immigration crimes in the United States in 2016. By contrast, there were only 85 federal convictions for murder out of a nationwide total of 17,785 murder convictions that year, comprising less than 0.5 percent of all murders.

Try taking a more nuanced view of things clubsy. One can be for a law, such as those governing speed limits, without insisting that whoever goes a few miles over be ticketed and thrown in jail. There can be a level of enforcement that people find excessive and a level people find acceptable. There are more views available than just "Zomg you want anarchy open BOrders!" and "Zomg you want to deport eleven million people."

Yeah, the federal courts tend to target certain segments by virtue of their jurisdictions. For violent crimes, you are talking about crimes committed on federal property.

If you go to the FBI statistics, a huge amount of our violent crime is actually happening in a few urban areas with high black populations. I don't think FBI stats break down the immigrant status, though, and I doubt it because they already deliberately conflate Latinos with whites in order to make whites look more violent than they are.

You really can't say much about the crime statistics with respect to immigration because the government deliberately obfuscates the data.

The policy of calling them whites really betrays the motive as well. I can think of no legitimate reason why law enforcement agencies anywhere would classify an obvious hispanic dude as white.
